| I've been struggling with making up my mind on the Porsche 924/944. So this is the story. I started this project out of frustration over the BLT version of the 924s and 944s not yet released years after being announced like 3/4 of their cars and I'm currently almost done with all the liveries. Using the Speedster63 model ( http://www.evolution-modding.com/t1303-released-porsche-924-carrera-gts-v1-0?highlight=porsche+924 ) as a trojan horse, my plan was/is to make all the 924s/944s that ever raced in the WSC, in the DRM and in the IMSA GTU/GTO. But there is a problem. The bodykit his mod features is technically a "Carrera GTR" one, but at the same time it isn't, and by that I mean that it's not accurate for the majority of the cars. Still, as the only other alternative currently available is the BPR 944 which is aesthetically near-stock, it's better than nothing, I guess. After a few weeks of painting, I'm now debating between me and myself on whether or not to continue/finish this thing. As I've said, I painted most of the liveries already, but I also went as far as creating window banners aswell (which are a pain in the ass for me because in rF1 I need 3 different textures for the same thing, but that's my problem, not yours ) and unique helmets for each driver. The bigger change that this car would need, is to erase the stock Fuchs and most of the BBS rims and change them with more accurate ones, unique for each livery. While on paper it sounds easy because BLT were kind enough to make all the styles I'd need on their other cars, it's going to take more time than I'd be willing to invest in something like this, especially considering that it's a temporary place holder. Because if I do the wheels, then I need to work on the rest of the body aswell and erase that factory spoiler for an IMSA variant used from 1983/84-onwards, remove the near-stock racing cockpit Speedster63 made and make a new one more accurate for the actual race cars and so on until the end of time or until I run out of things to change. That's the keyword, though; placeholder. Because supposedly, and among many other of their cars, BLT 924s/944s are still supposed to be released sometime soon( ) and considering their own models will be the accurate ones, I don't really want to make the same things (liveries) twice, but at the same time I still don't know when and if they will actually release their own ones, so if I stop now there might be a "risk" of ending up with nothing, but if I continue there might be a "risk" of ending up with two interpretations, so to speak, of the same cars. And that's not for the "clicks" or the "views" or the "downloads", I don't care for those. What I care for is having complete grids for my virtual collection of racing cars and I personally don't like having duplicates. Perhaps to some this dilemma of mine will sound silly, but I'd like to hear your opinion on this as I'm sure most of us found themselves in the same position, at least once in their modding career. | |

| why not ask BLT if you can work on their templates?

| Hey Zexer
I do not many accurate historical Paints but, tell me if im wrong, the Hardest work is searching for the right Badges and recherching for the right fonts. (sometimes you must create them by yourself). This is a Job you must do either. For Speedsters Mod or the upcoming BLT Mod.
So my suggestion: Make the Paintings on Speedsters Cars. Go through the Hard way, because much work you do now you do also for the Future. Hope all the Attachments you want are included in the upcoming BLT Mod. If not, do it by yourself or ask the Evo Mod Comunity.
BTW How many Cars are you talking about?

| In total, I can't say. A few thousands already done, probably.
For 924, haven't counted them yet, but I estimate ~250. | |

| This was taken back in february when I rebuilt the entire thing again for the 7th time due to hdd failure(s) which forced me to buy a dedicated ssd just for this mod. And I'm forcing myself from working on the VLM cars so they're not included nor accounted for in this estimate. With those I'd probably already be past the 3000 mark, instead it's a little over 2500, but they're all mine. | |

| Heya Zexer, I'd say press on lest we end up with the 'Galaxy' dilemma, if you stop of shelve the project and in 2 or 3 years BLT have still not released you might be to busy or not motivated enough to resurrect this work, it would be a shame to have it there but not available, but this is a 'users' point of view, waiting for someone else to make a move can be distracting and tiring to the point of saying... OK it's happening because yours might not. The choice is yours though in the end balancing the work done and the work still to do... unless you do an interim release and aim for an update for completion. Whatever the outcome don't make yourself ill or uncomfortable for the sake of others... and as GeeDee said, you have been busy | |

| Yes I know. In the end, I decided to just finish the skins and keep the model mostly unchanged because the 3D is inaccurate for half of them anyway. Haven't touched it in weeks, been busy with other cars, filling holes that not even BLT bothered with. Such as.. Not an accurate one, model is the "facelifted" '83 road variant instead of the '81 GT/E Gr.2 one, but starting from a road car ( http://f1classic.your-talk.com/t15510-released-audi-sport-quattro-1983-v1-3?highlight=audi+1983 ) Yesterday I spent close to 16 hours heavily reworking the interior so that it at least feels like a race car, changed few other parts and painted the iconic liveries used in DRM in 1981. It's better than nothing, I guess. Which is sad, because I'm sure I saw a wip screen of the correct model on RacingFr where they used to post previews and other things, but in the end it turned out to be the sedan variant and they ignored this one for some reason. If anyone wants to convert it to GTL and/or GTR2, let me know and I'll upload the files. I make more cars than I actually show around here or on NoGrip. But for things such as DRM it's now not just a Div.I fest anymore, as the Div.II field is growing rather big and makes for some interesting multi-class racing. | |
