2015 G3 Championship Round 5: Brno Masaryk

Last month in the 2015 G3 Monthly Championship held at XSR, it didn’t take long for the action to pick up. It was a rainy day at Hockenheim and immediately after the rolling start in turn 1, there was already some door to door action just outside the exit of 1. Henz (3rd, Renegade Autosport Vertigo) and Thunter (4th, Hunter Racing ViperCC) came together sending Henz spinning driver’s left out of the way, and Thunter spinning driver’s right, back into the path of oncoming traffic. Mongoose (5th, Renegade Autosport Vertigo) had a narrow gap to shoot in order to not be caught up in the gap, and somehow he pulled through it and went on the charge, now in third. Up ahead Alexi99 (2nd, 5FDP Racing Group Vertigo) and Shade13 (1st, McLamb Metalcraft Vertigo) had walked away with a nice lead while the events of turn 1 unfolded behind them.

Thanks to the wet conditions, there was no shortage of spins, or damage for that matter. Good news for the paint & body guys Porsche teams who all had other commitments that night. Throughout the mishaps, an intense battle unfolded between Shade13 who was trying to extend his lead and Mongoose (now second after Alexi99 had an off course excursion) who was in the process of closing that gap down at a high rate of time/lap. In the end, after the lead had changed hands between the two multiple times, Shade13 came out of top, scoring his first win of the G3 season, and his first at XSR. This win puts him among V12 with 2 wins and Mongoose with 1 win on the winners list.

This coming Monday night (May 11th), the drivers of the G3 Championship do battle at Brno Masaryk, in the Czech Republic. The series is expecting the return of Dah72094 (Hunter Racing Porsche), who has been away for most of the last few months. We are also expecting a couple of new drivers to the group.

If you wish to join the G3 Championship and get in on the remaining 8 races, all you have to do is sign up for the series with a unique number, and submit a skin to Mongoose by Saturday evening. We do have one or two skins that have been unused and are currently not taken if you do not have time to paint a skin. Drivers who join another member on a team also score points for the team championship in the events, so bring a friend or make a new one!
