- Thanks LE. It's too bad there are no tracks near you, but there's always someday. In truth it's probably for the best though. If there were a track near you, the mod would never get finished!
Well I am currently about 400kms away from the nearest track which is Barbagello Raceway which is used in the Aussie V8 Supercar series but I've never even been there. Yes, unfortunately my experience has been ALL virtual, heck, I don't even drive a car. Hows that for a rev head and living in a huge country like Oz ?? - Well I'm half a rev-head then I guess. Oh don't you worry mate, this mod will get finished. There certainly seems to be a bit of anticipation for it, and I hope that expectations are met but it will not be perfect once 'finished'. It is a conversion after all and I am learning as I go.....there are also somethings that I just can't fix to my satisfaction. This to do with the limitations of the GTL engine it seems - particularly coming 'down' from rFactor. Oh well, it will be what it is and I just hope people enjoy it. I've just noticed that I haven't done the Cooper variations yet. I have done the Cooper variations but each model has it's own slightly different body so that is part of todays work. I'm still learning this whole thing and day by day notice things I've missed. I appreciate your interest mate...everyones interest in fact and to think I just began this really as a way to get my favourite car (Gurney Eagle) into my current favourite sim.

| Yes, this mod will be a great enrichment to the game. The rFactor mod is very well done, but to easy to drive. If you ever played GPL, you know how hard it is to even keep the cars on the track. In any case, all involved deserve our respect and thanks.

Cheers HUE Thanks HUE But.....do NOT expect this to handle like GPL. We are trying to reach a happy medium between driveability, so all can have a chance of doing some laps, and realism. As I understand it, GPL's tyre physics were wrong and were way down on grip. But how do I really know what the grip should be, never having actually driven any of these cars for real. Having said that, I absolutely loved GPL, particularly the difficulty level. Nothing like after months (!?!) of practice finally being able to nail the Nurburgring and beating the AI at its own game !

Um...I just changed the name of the helmet material to wc_helmet and named the texture driver_helmet.dds And then for the individual drivers it was <driver name>_helmet.dds i.e 'john surtees_helmet.dds' if John Surtees was the name of the driver as described by Driver="John Surtees" from the .car file. .........

| Thanks Good to know. When Soze did the 71 F1 conversion we didn't know how to get them to work so I re did every helmet and uniform for each driver in GTL style. This will save a lot of work in the future. Thanks | |

| Also for the external driver body - (suit / uniform) material name wc_driver_body texture driver_body.dds and as described above for the helmet, <drivername>_body.dds i.e 'John Surtees_body.dds'

| Thanks very much for the info. BTW...Where did you put the 3d files for the driver? I'm guessing in the .obj file.

| Yep And of course the individual driver helmet and driver body textures are put in the car folder <car number/ID>_TEX.GTL or just left loose there. (you probably knew this). | |

| No worries mate. I did have a real nightmare with two of the car skins though. It was for the Lotus 43. All the lotus cars I've converted are in a folder named Lotus_49 and for the Lotus 43 variant, I changed in the .CAR file the Manufacturer='Lotus_49' to Manufacturer='Lotus_43'. To get the skin for the Lotus 43 to show I had to rename it from say 6705_lotus_49_body1.dds to 6705_lotus_43_body1.dds. Until then I thought that it got its team name from the team folder name i.e lotus_49 but No ! - it gets it from the manufacturer= value in the .CAR file. Took me a while to figure this out. So that was something important I learnt. P.S when I refer to team I am refering to the team part of material name wc_team_body1_pa | |

| I should start a GTL modding tips thread Seriously though, I do intend to compile what I've learnt and continue to learn into some sort of central 'book' - this info is currently scrawled over pieces of paper here and there. One day........ | |

| I know what you mean, I've done the same thing with tidbits of info on how to adjust ride heights, veiwpoints, Huds and gauges, etc. I just recently started to try and put them in a small note book just for GTL. | |

| LE, (et al, because I know there's a bunch of good folks on this!) ... you are ON FIRE! I confess I've never had an interest in "modern" (what I've seen in my 40 life span so far) open wheel racing, and the romance of 30s, 50s, and 60s Grands Prix was something I only knew about sketchily. Thanks to GTL, I've really deepend my interest in 60s F1/GP machines, and (thanks to my lovely wife's patience in my watching Grand Prix a few times in the last couple of months!) I'm really looking forward to how this mod is shaping up. Metaphorically, if you guys are the skilled "machinistas" in the garage, I'm the rabid retard cheering unintelligibly from behind the guardrails.... Though it may take some time, I'm hoping perhaps the other cars of the period will emerge for GTL - I'm thinking of the Eagle Mk1 ... that snout ... Thanks again for the great updates! DL | |
