| As some of you may have already read on some other threads, I am currently working on an update of the BMW 2002 from the Retro Expansion Pack.
For the moment, not much has been done except for the following : - Added additional front projectors - Added front and rear 2002tii emblems - Added rear BMW logo and trunk lock - Added a front spoiler
those parts come from the excellent BMW 2002tii mod by Team CC.
I have also changed the wheels (but I don't like them that much), and corrected the rear lighting (now lights and brakes light separately). I have also changed the tach and speedo dials (thought I don't remember where they come from).
I have pictures of these modifications but I don't know why I can't upload them at the moment.... I'll try later, when I have internet at home again and don't have to rely on public Wifi...
So, that's the way I used the car for a few months. After the impressive modifications Zee made to the Amazon, I thought that I'd try to make something with the 2002, a long time favorite (I had three of those 02s, two 1602 and a tii).
I have asked and received the authorization from Ron123 to work on his conversion. I have also the authorization from Kart1803 (from Team CC), to use the parts from their mod. So I'll now work more seriously on the project when I have time. Think I might use some license plates by Ahtoah, the same I used on one of the skins I made for the Amazon (I have authorization too).
Today I did some work on the textures. I have found how to paint the interior the same color as the exterior (the original car remains white inside no matter the color of the body), found how to paint the rollcage and modified a few textures.
On the 3d model, I remove the engine and all the stuff in the engine bay. The hood will not be detachable anymore, since it will not detach in cockpit view... I have made a front panel and a radiator to hide the now empty bay if you look through the grille (grille is see-through now). I have also removed the net that is on the driver's window. In the cockpit, you can find an LCD timer. I think I'll make it optional in case some people want to use the car with vintage skins. I have removed the exhaust and mirrors from the body. I'll make (or rather find) different models, there must be enough choice in the original cars.
I plan on working this evening on making the headlights and tailights detachable...
That's all for the moment... My battery is getting low, must send the message at once. I'll send pics when I can...

| A few pics of what's been done so far : The interior is now painted in body color, the rollbar has a distinctive color, there's a LCD timer. The parts borrowed from the team CC 2002tii : the trunk button, the logo and emblem, the tow hook. The rear lights are now separated, but need a small correction at the top edge. The external view of the cockpit shows the interior and rollbar colors. The headlights are now brighter when in use. The parts from the team CC 2002tii are : the emblem, the tow hook, the spoiler and the bar with the two projectors. I'll have to modify it so that it is not superimposed on the hook. Through the grille, the radiator and inner front panel I added can be seen. That's all there is to see for the moment. Current step is to make the front and rear lights detachable but it's not finished yet... More pictures when it's done... |

| Fantastic, I had a 2002TII exactly in the same color ! I like very much the physics of the Team CC GTL version with the vintage tires and suspensions from the rFactor/HGT version, I use it in my GTR2/P&G, very realistic. | |

| Thanks for all your comments guys. Making the headlights semi-transparent and detachable is done, and was easy to do. On this pic you can see the difference between an intact and a broken light. I have more problems with the rear lights. I have separated them from the body, but since that they remain almost invisible, even after removing the transparency and glass properties. Anyway, I'll find a way... Other problem. I'd like to make the reverse light operational, but failed to do so... I spent some time trying the understand, but I don't have any clue on how to do it. I even tried to import the lights from the Porsche RSR, but it doesn't work, the lights remain always on... On the CAS file, you can see a line about a reverse light, but it seems that Ron123 may have had some problems with it too, the line has been rendered useless with // That's all for now... |

| I don't think GTL supports reverse lights. Does anybody knows it for sure? | |

| The mod is going forward slowly (but surely). I have rebuilded the CAS file to integrate the new and optional parts. Doing so took a long time, mostly because of my lack of attention when modifying the file. This lead to mistakes and errors that took hours to get corrected. For example, two { instead of one brought this : While working on the CAS file, I changed all entries concerning an "expro" model, that is, a 3D model of the car that is visible only in the showroom and will not show any of the parts selectable via the genstring numbers... After making the actual car we see on the track visible in showroom, the problem was that it is located much too high, and looks like its hovering above the floor. So I lowered all the GMT files so that the car eventually sat in the correct position. After that, the CAR file had to be modified as well because there are many entries in it that are referring to the 3D location of this or that... This is almost done. The only two problems left are : The steering wheel axis that doesn't change even after having modified the corresponding entry in the car file, as this picture shows: I remember having read something about that in the forum, but I can't seem to find it again. If anybody has any idea about it, please feel free to tell me, I'll try them ! The second problem is the shadow. Since the moment I lowered all the GMT files, the shadow of the car is much too big, and I can't find anything related to shadow in any of the files. Did this happen to anybody else ? Here too, any idea will be welcomed. For the moment, the Genstring file modifies the following : 1 - Wheels : (Nothing done here yet but there'll be a choice of wheels to select) 2, 3 - Helmet 4 - LCD timer : 0=No - 1=Yes 5 - Mirrors : 0=No - 1=Left - 2=Left and Right (at least one or two more models to choose from) 6 - Front Grille : 1=Normal - 2=With Emblem - 3=No grille 7 - Front Spoiler : 0=No - 1=small blade 2=? (nothing more yet but maybe some extra choice) 8 - Additional projectors : 0=No - 1=2 Round Cibie 2= ? (as above) 9 - Rear Emblem : 0=No - 1=Yes 10 - Rear Bumper : 0=No - 1=Yes 11 - Trunk button : 0=No - 1=Yes 12 - Door handles : 0=No - 1=Yes 13 - Rear spoiler : 0=No - 1=Yes (Dont' know yet about this one because it doesn't look very good on this car... See picture above). That's all for the moment. |
